10 Tips to Improve Your Work Productivity in Serviced Accommodation

There are a variety of ways you can improve your work productivity and at Boutique Lux we are here to help you focus and get in the zone. The workday can be stressful and difficult enough as it is, without having to deal with a completely new and alien environment, messier schedule, and unsuitable places to work.

At Boutique Lux, our guests have access to comfortable working environments at both of our gorgeous properties  The Retreat and The Buddha House to help promote calmness and concentration. Both properties offer comfortable desk settings, free of pesky distractions, and loud noise to allow you to make the most out of your workday. However, there are also nine other things you need to know to help improve your work productivity from time schedules to exercising!

1. Try to Keep Regular Hours

By Age Barros on UnSplash

One of the first things you can do to improve your work productivity whilst in serviced accommodation is to keep to regular hours of daily work. Keeping a schedule whilst working away from home or the office is so important for you to be able to make the most out of your day.

Sometimes you wake later, which could then lead to a later start, a later lunch and before you know it, your whole evening has been filled with work responsibilities and zero time for relaxing and recharging! Whilst it is important to have consistency in the hours you work, it is also just as important to have consistency in the hours you spend with family, friends, or designated ‘you-time’.

2. Find a Designated Place to Work & Stick to it!

By Remy Loz on UnSplash

It can sometimes be difficult to avoid various distractions whilst working in a different environment! Therefore, it is important to establish a designated place to work and keep it free of any distractions or negative aspects to allow you to put your all into each and every workday!

Establishing a consistent place to work, is also important for the structure and routine of the workday, to be able to make the most out of your days spent away.

3. Plan Out Your Day in Advance for Improved Work Productivity

By Estee Janssens on UnSplash

Planning out your day ahead is hugely beneficial for whenever you need to get a lot done. Going into your day with a plan, allows you to be more focused and to stay on track no matter what the day throws at you. When you plan your day, make sure that you have a rough idea of what you want to achieve and what tasks you need to complete.

There is nothing better than seeing a completed to-do list at the end of the day, and it is a great way to visually see just how much you have accomplished!

4. Take Scheduled Breaks

By Kyle Glenn on UnSplash

When you work in a corporate environment, you are used to taking scheduled breaks throughout the day, whether it is on the drive to or drive from work, the odd coffee break with a co-worker, or the long-awaited lunch break.  When you work at home or in a new, more secluded environment, it can be easy to forget these frequent breaks and can therefore be more difficult to work through the day when you become burned out.

Make sure to allow yourself scheduled breaks throughout the day to improve your work productivity, and make sure you don’t just surf the internet or watch tv – leave the room to clear your head!

5. Get Out of the House & Out of Your Head!

By Olesya Grichina on UnSplash

It can be mentally draining to be cooped up inside all-day and sometimes it can be difficult to remember that the outside work actually exists! Open the windows and breathe in the fresh air, and even better – get out of the house!

Taking a walk in nature can have some great mental health benefits! No matter what the weather, make sure you schedule some time to get out in the great outdoors and experience the calmness and tranquility that nature has to offer!

6. Set Rules for Those Sharing Your Space

By Austin Distel on UnSplash

So this might be one of the most difficult things to achieve on this list! It is no secret that trying to work whilst surrounded by family, friends, little ones or pets can have a negative impact on your work productivity. It is therefore incredibly important that to achieve your necessary goals each day, you have to create boundaries which those sharing your space need to respect.

Establish ‘no-interruptions’ and ‘quiet time’ rules during set hours, and that way, when the hours are up and you have finished your productive workday, you can show up 100% for your family and friends, with your phone and notifications on silent.

7. Establish a Morning Routine

By Freestocks on UnSplash

When you work to someone else’s time schedule in a corporate environment, you have times you need to get up, show up, and get out. However, when you work from a home-based environment, these timings can easily go out of the window when you desire to spend just one more minute in bed or one more minute in the hot shower.

This is why it is so important to establish a set morning routine to experience each and every day so that you can show up fully to your work on time and in the right frame of mind. If you are one of those people who needs help to roll out from under the duvet in the morning, perhaps entice yourself with delicious plans for breakfast, or even an energising yoga routine?

8. Exercise & Stretch Regularly for Improved Work Productivity

By Jonathan Borba on UnSplash

Following on from incorporating yoga into your morning routine, it isn’t such a crazy idea to make time for other little exercises throughout the day too! It is well known that exercise improves mental wellbeing, and if it gets you away from that computer for a while then all the better!

Why not go on a little walk, take part in a quick HiiT session at home, or do some crunches whilst you are waiting for a client to reply? There are lots of apps available nowadays which are tailored to those who want to exercise but who don’t have a lot of time for a full intense workout. Some of the workouts offered by such apps can last anywhere from 3minutes, to 5minutes, through to half an hour or even a couple of hours if you’re feeling it!

9. Get Out of Those Pyjamas!

By Kinga Cichewicz on UnSplash

Would you turn up to a work meeting in your pajamas? Sit in the staff room in your onesie? What about eating lunch in the canteen in your undies? No? Well then, as tempting as it might be, refrain from wearing your pj’s whilst working from home!

Besides aesthetic reasons, you feel more productive and ready for the day when you have a shower and get dressed, and therefore you will probably accomplish more during your day compared to if you stayed in your pj’s all day! Even though it might be tempting – don’t do it!

10. Stay Off Social Media - Use Apps to Improve Work Productivity!

By Christian Wiediger on UnSplash

Look. We’ve all done it. We’ve all mindlessly scrolled through social media and have gotten distracted from the actual task at hand! Sometimes, if that task is cleaning or doing the washing up, then we might consider social media a welcome distraction. However, if it is work we are ignoring – then that is a much bigger problem!

There are apps to help with this though so do not fear! Installing work productivity apps on your phone stops access to certain apps on your phone that you find distracting when doing work. You can set this timer ban for as long as you want or how long it will take for you to get that work done! After the work is finished – scroll to your heart’s content!

We hope this list has been informative and has provided you with the knowledge you were looking for to take steps towards improved work productivity!
