Our Top 10 Local Spring Activities in 2021

Things are looking up and from the 12th April, there are so many spring activities that you can get stuck into, in and around our local area!

It has been a difficult year for all of us, so get your group of six together and have some fun with many local activities included below.

We would definitely recommend pre-booking whenever possible, to make sure you secure a place if there are limited spaces. Some of the below activities don’t need pre-booking and you can just turn up on the day, but for the few that do, it is highly recommended!

For Getting Out in Nature

1. Wicken Fen Nature Reserve

One of our top child-friendly spring activities is a trip to Wicken Fen!

Explore local nature in the beautiful nature reserve and perhaps even try pond dipping or the May Fly boat trip along Wicken Lode?vExplore the fens on a bike with a Fen Explorer ticket which allows for the boat ride plus two hours of bike hire.

2. Cambridge University Botanic Gardens

One of our favourite spring activities for a relaxing immersion in nature is a visit to the Cambridge University Botanic Gardens.

The beautiful Cambridge Botanical Garden is filled with over 8,000 species of plants and provides a wide variety of different resources including plant material, horticultural expertise, as well as research and lecturing facilities.

However, in addition to study, the botanical garden offers visitors a stunning place for everybody to visit and benefit from. It offers a series of gorgeous landscapes through which visitors can discover the serenity of nature.

Please note that children must have a pre-booked ticket to enter the Garden – children’s tickets are free of charge and can be booked on the ticketing website. There is currently a maximum of 3 children allowed per adult.
    • Essential Carer for Disabled Visitor: FREE – no admission charge is made for companions of disabled visitors without whose assistance the disabled visitor would be unable to gain access to the Garden.

3. Anglesey Abbey

A visit to Anglesey Abbey is one of our spring activities that is perfect for the whole family! Until the 17th May, the main house is still closed, however from the 12th April, the expansive garden, shop and cafe are open to the public.

Anglesey Abbey is perfect for floral favourers, nature nutters and those passionate about picnics! Throughout the park there are many areas to both learn about the natural world and also to relax in the glorious greenery around you.

6. Woburn Safari Park

One of our perfect spring activities for animal and nature-lovers of all ages is a trip to Woburn Safari Park!

The park is set in over 360 acres of stunning parkland and home to over 1,000 wild and exotic animals. One of the highlights of Cambridge is its gorgeous market in the city centre. Everyday street traders set up their stalls and sell delicious foods, beautiful jewellery, clothes, plants and crafts.

The general market takes place Monday through to Saturday and the Sunday market specialises in local foods, art and crafts. The historic market square is the perfect place to wander around in between shopping sprees!

After a successful stint last year, the drive-in cinema returns to Ely for 2021 with three blockbuster hit movies for you to watch from the comfort of your own car with your family and friends.

The movies showing this year are the Trolls movie, suitable for youngsters, the Greatest Showman, suitable for all the family, and Dirty Dancing, suitable for that romantic evening out.
